To reduce competition for food male and female huia had dramatically different beak sizes and shapes, a phenomenon so extreme they were initially described as two separate species by early European naturalists. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eOther conceptual thought: Although Huia feathers had been use for body adornment throughout human history in New Zealand, it was the \u003cspan\u003eDuke of York (later King George V) \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ewho during his 1901 royal visit to New Zealand wore a huia feather in his hat, which sparked a craze for the feathers among Europeans and intensified hunting of the bird.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"uJ19be notranslate\" data-wiz-uids=\"xWnkC_d,xWnkC_e,xWnkC_f\" data-processed=\"true\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"vKEkVd\" data-animation-atomic=\"\" data-processed=\"true\"\u003e This was a big factor in the extinction of the Huia and there is some irony that the Huia is dressed at as \"Lady\".\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eThe stamped mark is based on an actual cancellation mark from the Titirangi Post Office circa 1917 to 1935, at some point the original must have been physically stamped in that location. It reference a few well known sayings. \"We stand on the shoulder of giants\" and \"A shoulder to cry on\".  The design pictures the Henry Atkinson statue outside Lopdell House. Atkinson's  influence over the 0604 maybe something many are unaware of. Like gifting the land the Titirangi School is built on or gift the land for dams in the 0604.  His engineering knowledge helped construct infrastructure in early Auckland.\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\"A shoulder to cry on\" could be a reference to some of the cultural and environment impact of the area. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA shoulder to climb on...\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003ehttps:\/\/westheritageconference.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/1.-Fiona-Drummond-Henry-Atkinson.pdf\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe stamped mark is based on an actual ca\u003cimg\u003encellation mark from the Titirangi Post Office circa 1917 to 1935, at some point the original must have been physically stamped in that location.
